Palm Springs Photo Festival 2014

So this was the 9th year of the Palm Springs Photo Festival and photographer/organizer/producer Jeff Dunas once again brought together several hundred photographers, curators, art producers and photo agents for workshops, seminars, image presentations and portfolio reviews.

This was year three for me, spending a few days reviewing portfolios along with some hang time with old friends and getting introduced to new ones.

The wednesday evening presentation by photo icon (and funny man) Duane Michals was certainly one of the highlights of the week, and bumping bald heads with him after his presentation was a pretty cool bonus. Hey, when was the last time you bumped heads with an amazing artist like him? And the following day I did a follow up with Frank Okenfells III.   As Oscar Wilde said,  “Art is the only serious thing in the world. And the artist is the only person who is never serious.”

If you love photography, I strongly urge you to attend next year’s festival. Sign up for a workshop and/or some portfolio reviews.  You’ll have fun and you’ll meet some amazing people. You might even bump heads with me in the desert!

Epilogue:

So long my white Makins Hat friend. You left me in Palm Springs, somewhere between the shuttle, the airline desk and TSA check point in Palm Springs. You protected me from gamma rays and other of natures unpleasantries for 8 wonderful years. We shall sweat together no more. Adios mi sombrero amigo, enjoy the desert !!!  Until next year…..

What’s all this?

MANHATTMAN is hosted by Norman Maslov, whose Agence Internationale, represents a small group of wonderful photographers. This blog showcases images from these artists along with scribes about music, films, food, gin martinis and hats. Pontifications from a native San Franciscan and his extended family and friends. So it goes.
